Japanese communications company KDDI has selected Dutch digital security company Gemalto for the commercial launch of mobile NFC services in Japan.

Under the agreement, Gemalto is set to provide KDDI with its one-stop service encompassing its Allynis Trusted Service Manager (TSM) software and UpTeq NFC high-end security device.

The launch is a part of the Japan Mobile NFC Consortium that brings together three Japanese operators to coordinate the adoption of international standards for NFC. Subscribers are provided with contactless services including mobile payments, transportation services, e-driver’s licenses, e-ticketing as well as information acquisition from smart posters.

Gemalto has first partnered with KDDI in June 2010 to offer its User Identity Module (UIM) cards and Trusted Service Management (TSM) services for the latter’s Near-Field Communication (NFC) pilot program.

In recent news, Saudi Arabia- based mobile network operator Mobily has selected Gemalto for its Machine Identification Module (MIM) for the deployment of Machine-to-Machine (M2M) services.
