Gemplus Joins 3G Americas Board of Governors

Gemplus is the newest member of 3G Americas Board of Governors, effective 2004. Gemplus joins a Board comprised of leading operators and manufacturers that support the GSM family of technologies throughout the Americas, as well as the adoption of next generation wireless technologies and services.

Gemplus is a leading provider of SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) cards in the Americas. The SIM card is a smart card for use in wireless telecommunications. It plays a unique and important role in the GSM technology standard, serving as the authentication device to the GSM network and as an operator-owned application platform. Gemplus SIM cards enable a wide variety of secure, portable, and personalized solutions for GSM customers including security, portability of devices, and purchasing/banking functionality. 3G Americas Board of Governor members include AT&T Wireless (USA), Cable & Wireless (West Indies), Cingular Wireless (USA), Ericsson, HP, Lucent Technologies, Motorola, Nokia, Nortel Networks, Openwave Systems, Research In Motion, Rogers Wireless (Canada), Siemens, T-Mobile USA, Telcel (Mexico), Texas Instruments, and now Gemplus.
