Gemalto extends biometric ePassport issuance contract with Norway

Monday 3 May 2010 11:42 CET | News

Netherlands-based provider of digital security services Gemalto has renewed its multi-year contract to personalize and issue ePassports for Norwegian citizens.

Gemalto manages the entire delivery process from the production of the travel document through to personalization and operated issuance services, which are performed in Gemalto’s secure service centre.

Gemalto initially deployed ePassports in Norway in 2005, allowing the Nordic country to become one of the first in the world to complete a nationwide deployment of biometric passports compliant with international standards.

The new ePassports and issuance solution feature the EAC (Extended Access Control - an International Civil Aviation Organization standard for second-generation ePassports) for increased protection of biometric and privacy sensitive data, as well as enhanced security features in the polycarbonate data page.
