Skrills customer base has reached 25 mln in 2011

In 2011, UK-based global digital wallet provider Skrill, which operates under the Moneybookers brand, has seen its customer base reach more than 25 million, up 50 percent from 15.6 million in 2010.

According to the company’s results, Skrill’s merchant base also increased by almost 70 percent from 71,000 to 120,000, generating transaction volumes of over EUR 10 billion.

At the end of 2011, Skrill has secured EUR 80 million funding package from a syndicate of Lloyds Bank Corporate Markets, Royal Bank of Scotland and. Lloyds has backed Skrill since 2008.

Skrill’s Digital Wallet service allows customers to make online payments without revealing personal financial data. The service offers merchants more than 100 local payment options. In January 2012, Skrill has launched Skrill 1-Tap, a new product connected to Skrill’s digital wallet which aims to provide merchants and customers with mobile payment capabilities.

Skrill has more than 19 million account holders globally and gives access to over 100 payment options in over 200 countries and territories, processing in over 41 different currencies.
