Danish PBS Selects Sterling Commerce

Sterling Commerce has added PBS, to its growing list of Connect customers. PBS takes advantage of the secure and flexible environment provided by Sterling Commerces Connect:Enterprise to manage its data transfers across the Internet with customers of all sizes. Based in Denmark, PBS develops and optimizes networks for electronic payment systems. The company processes high volumes of payments from direct debit to salary files, and every minute of the day electronic transactions worth several hundred thousand dollars pass through the PBS systems. The company also acts as a processing center for Danish banks and provides payment services for issuers and users of VISA and MasterCard. PBS originally used its own proprietary communications infrastructure, General Transport (GT), to process and transfer its business and consumer payments electronically using X.25 and X.400 protocols. As the business communitys faith in the security of the Internet has increased, so too has the demand by PBS customers for a Web-based system that would allow them to send and receive data via the Internet at reduced costs. PBS needed a Web-based solution that required minimal manual intervention, so the company approached Sterling Commerce about its Connect portfolio of solutions. Connect:Enterprise from Sterling Commerce provides a scalable, easy-to-use and highly secure way of exchanging important data and files, such as payments and salary files, between PBS and its customers via the Internet. The end-to-end capabilities of Connect:Enterprise means that PBS can seamlessly integrate with the back-end systems of its banking partners without the massive development costs that would have been necessary to extensively adapt its existing GT system. Connect:Enterprise enables PBS to offer its customers a range of Internet connection methods based on company need including HTTP/S, S/FTP, and Connect:Direct Satellite. For PBS enterprise customers that already have Connect:Direct installed, Connect:Direct can be used.
