Credicard, Elavon join forces to create merchant payments company in Brazil

Credicard, a subsidiary of Citigroup, and Elavon, a subsidiary of US Bancorp, have signed a binding agreement to establish a joint venture which is set to create a merchant services company that will offer payment services to the Brazilian market.

In partnership with Credicard, Elavon will provide Brazilian consumers with payment processing services as well as point-of-sale devices for mobile acceptance. Elavon provides payment processing services to over one million merchants in the US, Europe, Canada and Puerto Rico. The companys services include credit and debit card processing, electronic check services, gift cards and cross-border acquiring.

The new company will be branded as “Elavon” and will be supported with the launch of a sales force with national coverage, as well as in-market operations, technology and product resources. In recent news, Elavon has been selected by US-based electronic payment services provider VeriFone to market and support the latter’s PAYware Mobile card payment system for the iPhone devices.
