Financial institution Co-operative Bank of Kenya has selected Finland-based IT services provider Tieto for the latters payment card platform to expand its operations to South Sudan.

The Tieto solution will enable Co-operative Bank of South Sudan to issue local debit cards as well as offer cardholders acquiring services using their own ATMs. Moreover, credit card issuing and Visa processing are also planned in the nearest future.

During the implementation project, Tieto delivered the Card Suite software modules as well as performed pre-study, installations, testing and project management. As part of the delivery, Co-operative Bank of South Sudan has also acquired an in-house dispute management solution and bank accounting interface. The bank accounting interface will ensure an effective and correct operation of the bank accounting system when processing payment card transaction information.

The entire Card Suite system is set-up centrally in Co-operative Banks data centre in Nairobi, Kenya, enabling a multi-currency, multi-institution and multi-country environment and ensuring high stability and excellent performance.

In recent news, Tieto has closed a five-year agreement on application management services with Arek, a developer and provider of earnings-based pension information system services.
