China: online shopping market reaches USD 121.52 bln in 2011

In 2011, the Chinese online market has reached USD 121.52 billion (RMB 773.6) registering a y-o-y growth of 55.3 percent, a recent research has unveiled.

According to the National Bureau of Statistics, during the period under review, China’s total retail sales of consumer goods has reached USD 2.82 trillion (RMB 18). The same source also points out that the number of online shoppers has increased to 194 million.

Results indicate that the transaction value of China’s online shopping market has contributed 4.3 percent to the total retail sales of consumer goods, continuing to grow in importance to the overall retail sales market.
