Anti-Phishing Working Group reports 40 percent rise in crimeware sites

Anti-Phishing Working Group research has found that the number of crimeware-spreading websites has surged to an all-time high. Published for the first time, APWGs PROJECT: Crimeware has been monitoring the increase of malicious software purpose-built for criminal enterprise for over a year (June 5 - June 6) and the number of crimeware-spreading sites has continued to quickly expand.

* Number of unique phishing reports received in June 2006: 28,571 * Number of unique phishing sites received in June 2006: 9,255 * Number of brands hijacked by phishing campaigns in June: 130 * Number of brands compromising the top 80 percent of phishing campaigns in June: 17 * Country hosting the most phishing websites in June: United States * Contain some form of target name URL: 44 percent * No hostname just IP address: 41 percent * Percentage of sites not using port 80: 6.5 percent * Average time online for site: 4.8 days * Longest time online for site: 31 days The full report is available at: http://www.antiphishing.org/reports/apwg_report_june_2006.pdf
