The solutions will enable customers to add a digital tip for their barista when paying with the Starbucks app and by shaking the app once it is open, the bar code functionality will automatically be pulled up and the transaction can be completed.
The updates to Starbucks’ iPhone app will roll out in the US, Canada and UK with an Android version to follow later this year. The digital tipping is only available within the US.
