Indonesia rolls out national QR code system

Indonesia’s central bank has approved a standard QR code system and has given mobile payment providers the end of 2019 as deadline to upgrade their platforms.

According to Mobile World Live, Bank Indonesia said the introduction of a national standard for mobile payments would accelerate financial inclusion efforts in the country. From the new standards would also benefit small and medium sized businesses as it would improve the efficiency of their operations.

Once rolled out, the QR code system will be used for transactions through mobile payment providers, electronic wallets and mobile banking applications.
