Ericsson awarded GSM/GPRS expansion contract in China

Ericsson has signed a GSM/GPRS expansion contract with Jiangsu, including equipment that supports the latest version of GPRS and EDGE, with Mobile Communication Co., Ltd. (Jiangsu Mobile).

The value of the contract is USD 58 million. Under this expansion contract, Ericsson will provide Jiangsu Mobile with infrastructure systems, solutions and services. Ericsson will provide its latest technologies for high-speed data communication and multi-media services. The expansion also paves the way for a smooth transition to introduce 3G capacities. Ericsson will also provide comprehensive and tailor-made services to enhance the communication quality of Jiangsu Mobiles existing network. The services include engineering service, network support, network optimization, technical and management training. The expansion project is expected to be completed by the end of 2004. Ericssons cooperation with Jiangsu Mobile began in 1992. Ericsson is now the largest mobile network supplier to Jiangsu Mobile. The equipment will be supplied by Nanjing Ericsson Panda Communications Company, Ltd. (ENC), Ericssons largest joint venture in China and one of Ericssons global supply hubs for the Asia-Pacific region.
