Tuesday 6 September 2011 15:23 CET | News

Zimbabwe-based mobile network operator Econet Wireless is set to roll out a mobile payment system that allows Zimbabweans to carry out payments via their handsets.

The system involves the use of a mobile wallet which Econet subscribers can use for purchases worth USD 20 or less. Econet’s customer base currently includes around 5 million subscribers. The Econet-powered m-wallet is currently being piloted with a restricted number of consumers and set to go live on the market by the end of September 2011.
