Airtel, mCheck launch m-commerce application

Indian mobile operator Airtel has teamed with provider of mobile security and payment services mCheck to provide a package of m-commerce services that includes Mobile Money Transfer (MMT), Postpaid Bill Payment and Prepaid Recharge. The service will be launched on 15 March.

Airtel Postpaid mobile customers with VISA credit or debit cards with ICICI bank, HDFC bank, SBI, Corporation Bank can now pay their postpaid bills instantly. Customers can also use the service to top-up their credit as well as their friends’ credit. Mobile Money transfer will allow Airtel customers who have a VISA credit or debit card issued by the three mentioned banks to transfer money to their family or friends that also have a VISA card. SBI customers will be also able to transfer money from one SBI account to another SBI account or to any VISA debit/credit card in the country. In order to use all the m-commerce applications, Airtel customers first need to download the application. The download procedure includes verification of the applicant’s card details. After the download is complete, customers have to send a SMS to the operator to start the service.  The application has been certified by Payment Card Industry Data Security Standards (PCIDSS).
