The programme allowed customers to scan items with a smartphone app, then pay their bill on the app and show the digital receipt to a store greeter on the way out.
The expansion of the program to 100 stores pointed to the intensifications of the programme, but the results of the test indicated that Scan & Go was widely unused by customers, a Walmart representative told Business Insider.
Requiring customers to scan each individual item makes the shopping experience more labor intensive for a customer than it would be without the programme, this being one of the main reasons for the unsuccessful chashierless approach, according to the publication.
