Rocket Internet, Ooredoo to tap into the Asian emerging markets

Rocket Internet, a Germany-based online startup incubator, has joined Qatar-based telecommunications provider Ooredoo in a venture dubbed Asia Internet Holding, for building and funding ecommerce startups, especially those focused on mobile services.

Asia Internet Holding will focus on 15 markets in the region including Pakistan, Myanmar, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Indonesia, Vietnam, the Philippines and Australia. The new joint venture will provides a series of commerce services from online and mobile retailers and marketplaces, through to payment services.

In March 2014, Ooredoo has enhanced its mobile money service to enable customers to send money to bank accounts in the Philippines from their mobile phones.
