In 2019, 258 million online purchases were made, which is an increase of 4% compared to the situation in 2018. The number of online buyers stayed the same, with 96% of people making at least one online purchase in 2019, but the amount a consumer spends on products increased with 9%, and on services with 4%.
The food category remains a key driver for the Dutch ecommerce industry, the online expenditure growing with 24%. Even so, the 7% growth of 2019 is lower than in recent years, when the Dutch ecommerce grew with double-digit numbers.
