French retailer Carrefour is set to offer online shopping in India and to build an IT platform to enable its customers to shop online.

Carrefour will build its IT platform via the Websphere Commerce platform powered by IBM. IBM WebSphere Commerce provides companies with a customer interaction platform for cross-channel and online commerce and supports all business models.

The new online store will allow customers which include hotels, restaurants, catering companies, offices and institutions to look for and place orders as per their specific requirements. Currently, Carrefour has only one cash and carry store in India. Carrefour is expected to roll out the new IT platform in Q3 2011.
