Zain Cash, IrisGuard, UNHCR to authenticate payments to refugees

Friday 23 August 2019 10:45 CET | News

Zain Cash has revealed it will introduce the EyePay Cash platform, enabling refugees to cash out their financial assistance via iris identification.

Zain Cash is Zain Group’s mobile wallet, money transfer, electronic bill payment, and funds disbursement service in Iraq. The scheme has been developed in partnership with UNHCR and IrisGuard, a UK-based electronic payment products company that supplies biometric equipment.

Currently, over 120,000 vulnerable families are in Iraq and approximately 30,000 refugees in the country are receiving cash support via UNHCR. Only the entitled refugee will be able to withdraw cash, with no need for any other identification. The IrisGuard imager captures a greyscale image of the iris, converting it to a reliable and permanent Unique Verifiable Identity (UVI) that is used for cross-matching purposes.
