Volodymyr Nosov was twenty-four when he earned his first million dollars. By that time, he had already spent about six years in the distribution business and owned his own company. He believed in what he was building and reinvested every cent back into the business he was developing in Ukraine. His decision to scale rather than chase quick profit clearly revealed the mindset of a future large-scale entrepreneur.
Volodymyr had always aspired to build projects with global reach. He was especially drawn to technology businesses because of their rapid development and the new opportunities that innovative services and products created for humanity. By 2017, he had sold his distribution business. Instead of starting something similar, Nosov moved into a field he barely knew at the time: blockchain. His willingness to leave a working business behind and learn an entirely new industry was rooted in a principle he still repeats today:
“Learn to communicate, adapt, and find solutions in difficult situations — that is how you succeed. Otherwise, you end up on the sidelines,” the entrepreneur says.
In November 2018, Volodymyr Nosov founded WhiteBIT crypto exchange — a move that, at the time, looked highly risky. The crypto market had entered one of its deepest bear cycles, most investors had stepped back, but Nosov moved in the opposite direction, working twenty-hour days during the company’s first months.
“From the very beginning, I wanted to build a clean, transparent business. I became fascinated by blockchain technology and wanted to create innovative products that would improve the lives of millions of people,” he noted.
The fact that the digital asset industry was still very young at that time. — and that many were watching it from the sidelines with great caution — ultimately worked in his favor. From the first day of building his exchange, Volodymyr focused fully on engineering and security. As a result, WhiteBIT became the first cryptocurrency exchange in the world to be certified under the highest level of the Cryptocurrency Security Standard. This achievement reflects the company’s long-standing focus on building security in-house: since day one, WhiteBIT has relied on its own engineering team rather than third-party solutions. The platform is also among the TOP 3 most secure crypto exchanges according to the CER.live audit, based on its Security Rating.
Volodymyr has always had a visionary and unconventional approach to business. Still, global success requires more than vision — it also demands courage and decisiveness. And one day, or more precisely at one of the most difficult turning points, Volodymyr had to demonstrate all of these qualities.
That day was February 24, 2022, when Russia launched its full-scale invasion of Ukraine. Volodymyr Nosov made a bold decision that would shape the future of WhiteBIT: he completely cut the company off from the Russian market.
“First, we disabled all payment gateways that allowed deposits or withdrawals in Russian rubles. Second, we removed all trading pairs with the ruble. Third, we fully banned Russian users from registering on our platform,” Volodymyr Nosov explains.
This move cost him roughly thirty percent of the user base in a single stroke. But it was a principled stance — one that reflected deep patriotism and support for his home country.
Under those circumstances, he had to turn lemons into lemonade. Volodymyr redirected the rest of the business toward international expansion, skillfully transforming a crisis into new large-scale opportunities. As a result, just three years later, that decision had grown into a global business. Today, W Group — which includes WhiteBIT, one of Europe’s largest crypto exchanges; Whitepay, a crypto-processing infrastructure provider; Whitechain, its own blockchain; fintech projects in Georgia; and a portfolio of media projects — serves more than 35 million clients in 150 countries and has a team of 1,300 employees across Europe, Türkiye, and Australia.
By the end of 2025, the exchange’s annual trading volume had reached $3.5 trillion. The company’s native coin, WBT, was included in five S&P Dow Jones cryptocurrency indices, while its market capitalization exceeded $15 billion. Nosov is now working on a CBDC project in partnership with the Central Bank of Saudi Arabia and has entered the U.S. market.
None of these achievements has diminished his sense of responsibility toward his country. “The meaning of business is not only about making money,” he says. Since February 2022, he and WhiteBIT have contributed more than $11 million of company funds to Ukraine’s defense and humanitarian needs.
His charitable work has been recognized by several institutions. Volodymyr Nosov has received honorary awards from the official fundraising platform of Ukraine, launched by President Zelenskyy, UNITED24 platform, as well as from some of the most respected institutions within Ukraine’s defense sector: the Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine, the Security Service of Ukraine, the National Security and Defence Council of Ukraine, and the “Assistance to the Army” badge from former Commander-in-Chief Valerii Zaluzhnyi.
“For me personally, it is very important to be above circumstances, not under them. When a person is above circumstances, they can help others, provide different kinds of support, and directly influence the future outcome. It is important to me that I manage events and circumstances, rather than letting them manage me,” Volodymyr Nosov emphasized.
His position as a philanthropist and patron has shaped several areas of WhiteBIT’s social responsibility policy. Back in April 2022, when millions of Ukrainians were forced to leave for different countries in search of safer living conditions, Volodymyr Nosov reached an agreement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine to support Ukrainian refugees around the world. A memorandum was signed, under which WhiteBIT and the Ministry launched a joint call center and chatbot to provide fast consultations for Ukrainian refugees abroad who had been displaced by the war.
WhiteBIT also purchased special portable equipment for consulates to help them provide faster support to Ukrainians in emergency situations. In addition, more than fifty embassies received special equipment to provide consultations for deaf and mute Ukrainians and support urgent consular work.
“As an innovative company, we are always glad to provide technical support that makes people’s lives better and simpler,” Volodymyr emphasizes.
Another area of WhiteBIT’s social responsibility has been education, with a focus on improving financial literacy. In 2023, Volodymyr Nosov’s company, in partnership with the Ministry of Digital Transformation, launched a free course called “Cryptoliteracy and Blockchain” on the Diia.Education platform. By the way, Diia means “Action” in Ukrainian and is a revolutionary digital ecosystem created by the Ministry of Digital Transformation of Ukraine to serve as the country’s national digital governance platform. In its first year, the course attracted 25,000 students. “Ukraine can and should become one of Europe’s key digital hubs,” he says — and his work reflects his intention to help build that hub.
But the cause closest to him lies even deeper. Since 2020, Volodymyr Nosov has personally funded full courses of cancer treatment for children in Ukraine, covering everything needed for their recovery and return to normal life. Over the years, his support has helped save more than one hundred children, while sixty are currently under his direct care. Volodymyr Nosov rarely speaks about this publicly.
He believes that business should exist not only for profit, but above all to create value and help people. This idea runs through his entire journey — from a small distribution business in Kharkiv to a global fintech ecosystem.
Nosov’s path has taken him from a young entrepreneur to a person who not only builds companies, but also takes responsibility for a broader context: supporting social initiatives, funding treatment for children with cancer, and personally meeting with their families. His story is difficult to fit into a single definition. WhiteBIT is only the most visible result of that story. What truly matters is the person behind it all.
