The development completes Amex’s acceptance across all major airlines operating in and out of the United Kingdom. In essence, the integration allows Amex cardholders to make payments for Wizz Air flights and in-flight products via the airline’s website and mobile application.
According to representatives from American Express, promotional offers tied to Wizz Air purchases will be rolled out to cardmembers through the Amex Offers platform in the near future.
According to the official press release, Wizz Air, which carries more than 70 million passengers annually and operates around 800 routes, continues to expand across both established and emerging markets. Company officials noted that the decision to accept Amex reflects efforts to provide greater convenience to passengers, particularly business travellers who frequently use the card.
The partnership marks a further step in Amex’s efforts to expand its UK acceptance footprint. Beyond air travel, the company has established payment acceptance across all major rail operators, as well as Transport for London’s contactless network. Earlier this year, Amex entered into agreements with Brighton & Hove Buses and Metrobus, enabling cardholders to make tap-and-go payments across regional bus and tram services in parts of Surrey, Sussex and Kent.
Representatives from American Express stated that the agreement with Wizz Air builds on a momentum with UK merchants, ranging from national supermarket chains and high street retailers to a large number of small businesses.
Officials from both firms pointed to the practical benefits of the new partnership. A Wizz Air representative indicated that adding Amex as a payment option caters to a segment of corporate customers who already rely on the card for travel-related expenses.
Additional travel-related services offered by American Express, including airport lounge access and travel insurance, remain available through specific card products. However, such benefits were not part of the Wizz Air partnership announcement.
