Cabcharge, an electronic payment provider for taxi operators, has entered an agreement with China UnionPay, China’s bankcard association.

As part of the agreement, Cabcharge has introduced China UnionPay cards as a payment method for their services. Thus, people who live in Sydney and Pert will now be able to pay for taxi fares via their China UnionPay cards.

China UnionPay is the national bankcard association in China, responsible for operating the unified inter-bank clearing and settlement system and developing the international acceptance network for the China UnionPay card.

In recent news, China UnionPay and MasterCard Worldwide have inked a payment gateway service agreement to allow MasterCard’s e-commerce platform to accept UnionPay Cards. The two companies have also extended the term of their existing Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
