Basel Committee consults on financial inclusion

The Basel Committee on Banking Supervision has issued for public consultation proposed guidance for the regulation and supervision of institutions relevant to financial inclusion.

This consultative document builds on past work by the Committee to elaborate additional guidance in the application of the Committees Core principles for effective banking supervision to the supervision of financial institutions engaged in serving the financially unserved and underserved. This includes a report of the Range of practice in the regulation and supervision of institutions relevant to financial inclusion, and expands on Microfinance activities and the Core Principles for Effective Banking Supervision.

The Committee welcomes comments on this consultative document. Comments should be uploaded here by Thursday 31 March 2016 or they may be sent by post to: Secretariat of the Basel Committee on Banking Supervision, Bank for International Settlements, CH-4002 Basel, Switzerland. All comments will be published on the website of the Bank for International Settlements unless a respondent explicitly requests confidential treatment.
