According to the source, the company’s Amazon Payments unit is planning to launch a service based on NFC technology, thus enabling consumers to pay by tapping a mobile device against specially equipped cash registers.
In addition, the source reports that in March Amazon opened the Amazon Appstore for Android, which is set to sell applications for mobile devices powered by Google’s Android operating system. Moreover, Amazon is considering developing an NFC-based marketing service, as well.
The company is expected to release the NFC-based m-payment service by the end of 2011.
