US provider of wireless and wireline communication services Sprint and Vantiv, a provider of payment strategies and technology for financial institutions and businesses worldwide, have entered a strategic relationship in order to launch a tablet-based, cloud-connected point-of-sale (POS) system.

Vantiv Mobile Checkout, powered by NCR Silver, enables businesses to transition away from traditional cash registers and manual processes to integrated technology. Vantiv Mobile Checkout, available through the Sprint business sales channel, enables business owners to track sales, analyze and report on customer trends, manage inventory, market to customers and process sales on site or on location.

This service includes the tablet, wireless connectivity, encrypted credit card reader, tablet stand, cash drawer and countertop receipt printer. Scanners, Bluetooth printers and other retail accessories are also available.

Sprint Nextel is a holding company that operates wireline and wireless networks that serve customers in the US, Puerto Rico and the US Virgin Islands. Sprint Nextel, through its subsidiaries, provides services under the Sprint, Boost Mobile, Virgin Mobile and Assurance Wireless brands.

Vantiv (formerly Fifth Third Processing Solutions) was founded in 1971. Vantivs product suite includes ATM terminal driving and monitoring, ATM and debit card transaction authorisation and processing, credit issuing and processing services, national and regional gateway services, ancillary services including fraud detection, card production and other consultative services.

In recent news, Sprint has entered an agreement with Canvas, a cloud-based software service.
