MasterCard appoints EMP as principal member in Egypt

MasterCard has appointed Emerging Markets Payments (EMP), an electronic payments processing company in the Middle East and Africa region, as a principal member in Egypt. Through this, EMP will be able to sponsor issuers in Egypt and other African markets as affiliates.

Under the agreement, the solution from EMP is set to enable smaller issuers to offer an unlimited number of prepaid, credit and debit cards, get access to ATMs and POS services by using EMP’s ability to sponsor them as affiliates, and use from EMP the technology and operations outsourcing services.

Emerging Markets Payments (EMP) is focused on elements of the payments value chain such as issuing, acquiring and switching through to card procurement and covers card, mobile and Internet channels. EMP is currently partner to 130 banks and 30,000 retailers across 45 countries in MEA. The company also offers a range of eGovernment solutions.

In recent news, Emerging Markets Payments (EMP) has been appointed to provide electronic payments processing for taxes and customs fees at the Port of Douala in Cameroon.
